Philanthropists and Funders with Global Focus Convene to Strengthen Collaboration and Capacity-Building at September Innovations Symposium Hosted by NEID, TPI
Boston, MA (August 9, 2018) – Internationally-oriented philanthropists and investors will convene to learn about the most recent trends and innovations in international philanthropy and improve practical hands-on skills at the Innovations in International Philanthropy Symposium on September 6 and 7 in Boston. Hosted by New England International Donors (NEID) and The Philanthropic Initiative (TPI), the Symposium offers a unique opportunity for individuals, families, corporate funders, independent and community foundations, and impact investors with an international focus to network, seek out opportunities for collaboration, and find new strategies to increase the impact of their giving.
Participants attending the event will include funders actively supporting the full range of international issues prioritized in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including: global health, education, women and girls, refugee issues, disaster relief and humanitarian interventions, peace and security, human rights, climate change, disability rights, water and food security, and more.
The Symposium will feature skill-building workshops on subjects including ramping up one’s international philanthropy, engaging in effective impact investing, incorporating systems thinking in philanthropy, introducing gender-lens giving, scaling organizations through philanthropy, building a culture of engagement in global companies, and empowering community foundations to support international donors. The nearly 30 speakers and workshop leaders will include:
- Raj Panjabi, CEO and co-founder of Last Mile Health, addressing global health along with Chris Anderson, TED Curator and Founder of The Audacious Project;
- Gary White, CEO and co-founder (with actor/activist Matt Damon) of Water.org, discussing philanthropy’s role in making water safe, along with Ridgway H. White, President, Charles Stewart Mott Foundation;
- Lisa Jackson, Managing Partner at Imago Dei Fund, exploring the topic of introducing a gender lens to philanthropy;
- Carlyle Singer, President, Acumen, addressing how to leverage impact investing to support social change;
- Crystal Barnes, Executive Director, Nielsen Foundation, examining successful models of global corporate philanthropy; and
- Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande, founder of the Deshpande Foundation, who will close with thoughts on the future of international investing.
