Planning and Programmatic Support
While many of TPI’s global clients prefer to remain anonymous, the consultancies below are representative of TPI’s global work.
Investing in Hong Kong and the PRC - Over a period of years TPI helped a Hong Kong-based business family through a strategic planning process aimed at narrowing the focus of its foundation’s giving, extending it from Hong Kong deep into the People’s Republic of China, and refining the foundation’s structure. Getting Started – TPI worked with the Geneva-based Oak Foundation to create a strategic planning process aimed at developing its mission, identifying its future directions, and structuring its governance and grantmaking program. TPI served as Oak’s U.S. office for a period of time, and helped recruit senior program staff and assisted with programmatic research on environmental issues, learning disabilities, and various issues facing women and children. International Human Rights – The Reebok Foundation has had a long-term interest in international human rights issues, including its distinguished Human Rights Awards Program that recognizes activists under the age of 30. TPI worked closely with Reebok on various aspects of these programs.
Global Health - In recognition of its 25th anniversary, the Boston Scientific Corporation decided to dedicate $1 million, through the Boston Scientific Foundation, to address the health needs of disadvantaged and disenfranchised populations throughout the world. With TPI's assistance in researching various opportunities, the Foundation decided to award this grant to Medicins Sans Frontieres (Doctors Without Borders).
Addressing Communicable Diseases in Southeast Asia – Working with a closely held family investment firm, TPI helped the firm structure its giving and refine its focus on communicable diseases. Global Strategies for Social Investment – TPI served as the consultant on this project for a Germany-based foundation, aimed at mapping global social needs and philanthropic opportunity.
Professional Education in Israel – TPI worked with the Joyce and Irving Goldman Foundation of New York to structure a major gift to the Ben Gurion University Medical School that included the creation of an International Scientific Advisory Committee that meets annually to review the school’s operations. TPI continues to facilitate the committee’s work.
An International Humanitarian Award – Since 2003, The Opus Prize Foundation of Minneapolis has annually recognized and awarded a $1 million prize to an organization anywhere in the world that is doing exemplary faith-based humanitarian work. TPI assisted the foundation in all of the elements associated with the establishment of this award. A New Corporate Philanthropy - A new hedge fund with offices in London and New York retained TPI and New Philanthropy Capital (London) to help shape its structure and giving. Strategic Planning and Parenting Education – TPI has worked with the Montreal-based de Gaspe Beaubien Family Foundation on various strategic planning issues, including research to help the foundation develop a major initiative in parenting education.
