Consolidations and Mergers

In response to the current economic challenges, more and more nonprofit executives - and their funders – are considering mergers as a potential strategic option. Indeed, in a sector that includes over 1mm nonprofit organizations - many offering similar programs and services - the increasing competition for funds and talent mandate an assessment of consolidations or mergers as options that could help strengthen organizational effectiveness, meet rising service demands, maximize capacities, achieve intended outcomes more efficiently, and serve more of those most in need. CAP believes that - similar to 'nontraditional' capital - consolidations and mergers represent under-utilized but compelling strategic options for philanthropic organizations today.

For NonProfits -- CAP works with organizations to evaluate merger strategies, assess potential partners and collaborators, provide frameworks for evaluating partner options, think through collaboration options among grantees, regional providers, and other relationships.

For Foundations and Individuals -- CAP works funders and donors who are interested in supporting the evaluation and implementation of consolidation strategies with their current grantees - or are considering how best they might support consolidation activities in the specific fields aligned with their mission.

If you are interested in learning more about CAP’s consolidation advisory services, and how we can work with your organization to evaluate, design and develop merger or consolidation strategies, please contact us at: cap-tfs@tpi.org
