Joanne Duhl

Joanne Duhl, a Vice President at TPI, has spent over twenty five years working on education and human services issues. At TPI, she has designed and managed unique grants initiatives that respond to the interests and goals of individual donors, family foundations, and corporations.  These have focused on a range of social change issues, including K-12 school improvement, integrating arts into education, fostering inter-group relations, and expanding access to higher education.  Joanne has also conducted issues research and prepared policy papers aimed at increasing the impact of philanthropic giving.  Her research and writing covers a broad range of social issues, including early childhood education, community development in low income communities, youth development, and fostering creativity.  Joanne also authored TPI’s recent publication, “Donor Collaboration: Power in Numbers” and is currently working on a project examining philanthropy as a vehicle for sustaining social change.

Before joining TPI, Joanne was the chief education and human services analyst for the Secretary of Administration and Finance in Massachusetts. Her responsibilities included oversight of state spending on education and social services. Prior to that, she ran a community outreach program at an anti-poverty agency.

Joanne is a graduate of Clark University, and received her Masters in Education from Harvard's Graduate School of Education in 1984.  She spent a decade as a member of her local high school Board of Directors.
