Recruiting Foster and Adoptive Families

Last year TPI assisted a donor who wanted to make a difference in the lives of foster children in New Jersey.  We worked with Children's Aid and Family Services to develop a proposal for a large scale public relations and outreach campaign to recruit more foster and adoptive parents.  The donor provided the gift anonymously to Children's Aid and they used it to engage a marketing firm to create designs and messages and to place them on billboards in buses, train stations, and malls throughout northern New Jersey.

Since the grant was made a year ago, Children's Aid has seen a increase in applications by prospective foster and adoptive parents.  In addition, other donors have come forward to help with this effort, including offers of free billboards and print advertising .  And the organization is now partnering with a celebrity spokesperson: Darryl McDaniels of the rap group Run-DMC, is working with Children's Aid to raise awareness about children in the foster care/adoption system in New Jersey.  McDaniels, who was adopted himself, will be featured on video and radio PSAs and billboards throughout northern New Jersey as part of an outreach campaign called "It's Cool to Care".  McDaniels' You Tube recording is featured on the agency's website along with a description of the overall awareness campaign that the anonymous donor developed.

Catch a glimpse of some of the billboards on pages 4 and 5 of "Turning Points," Children's Aid and Family Services newsletter.
