Social Venture Partners

Joe was an early advocate of the Social Venture Partners (SVP) model, started 10 years ago in Seattle with an endowment from Paul Brainerd, inventor of PageMaker software. SVP connects grant making, volunteerism, nonprofit capacity building, and philanthropic education through a network of professionals who believe in investing in their communities based on the venture capital model. Joe volunteered his services in a five year evaluation of SVP in 2002 and when the Boston affiliate needed assistance in 2003, Joe invited them to run their operations out of TPI and served as their advisor. This is just one example of how he lent his time and expertise to further the development of innovative philanthropic strategies.

SVP currently has 23 affiliates and 1,600 partners across North America. Combined they have invested $19.5 million in over 200 non profits. SVP's 10 year anniversary will be celebrated in Seattle October 12-13.  For more information, visit SVP International or SVP Boston.
