Two New Senior Fellows at TPI

The Philanthropic Initiative, Inc. (TPI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mark Sidel and Peter Lamb as Senior Fellows. As leaders in their respective fields, TPI Senior Fellows use their vision, passion and expertise to increase philanthropy’s impact on today’s most pressing social and environmental challenges: the mission TPI has pursued for over twenty years.
Mark Sidel is a widely recognized expert in global philanthropic studies, with deep expertise in the legal and policy environment of global philanthropy and the practice of philanthropy in Asia. Sidel is currently Professor of Law, Faculty Scholar, and Lauridsen Research Fellow at the University of Iowa; President of the International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR); and consultant to the International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL), where he supports a MacArthur Foundation-supported program to strengthen nonprofit law and policy in China. He has worked on issues of development, governance and accountability in international and domestic philanthropy for many years, initially as a program officer with the Ford Foundation in Beijing, Hanoi, Bangkok, and New Delhi. In addition to advising foundations and international nonprofits on civil society development, philanthropy and legal reform in Asia and beyond, Sidel has authored or edited seven books. He has served as visiting professor of law at a number of prestigious institutions around the world and won the inaugural ICNL-Cordaid Civil Liberties Prize in 2008 for his work on counter-terrorism and the nonprofit sector.
Peter Lamb is a leader in the U.S. philanthropic sector, highly respected for his pioneering work with both community and family foundations. Lamb is currently the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s Senior Philanthropic Advisor. He joined the Foundation in 1999 and was most recently the Vice President for Philanthropy. He provides counsel & philanthropic solutions for individuals and their advisors who seek to organize charitable ideas, strategically approach grantmaking and pursue family legacies. He has served as trustee of private foundations and on numerous environmental, historic, arts and education boards including current positions on the University System of NH Board of Trustees, the Piscataqua Region Estuary Partnership and the bi-country Gulf of Maine Council. He is a member of the NH Estate Planning Council, the Council on Foundation’s AdNet steering committee, a frequent conference speaker and a founding member of the national Excellence in Family Philanthropy: Community Foundations Working Group.
