The Philanthropic Initiative, Inc. (TPI) is pleased to announce the release of Global Institutional Philanthropy: A Preliminary Status Report created by TPI for the Philippines-based Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS).

The study brings together disperse knowledge and data on institutional philanthropy from countries around the world and creates a picture of the rich, evolving, and promising landscape of global giving.

“The first of its type, this study allows one to understand a country’s philanthropic environment within the larger global context. Policymakers, philanthropists, social change practitioners, and academics will use its comparative data and its in-depth profiles to understand and strengthen the practice of philanthropy,” said Marissa Camacho, Director of WINGS.

Authored by Paula D. Johnson, Director of the Center for Global Philanthropy at TPI, the study explores the breadth and depth of global philanthropy.  Part One examines regional trends, commonalities and diversity in six regions: Sub-Saharan Africa, the Arab Region, Asia Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America.  Part Two profiles institutional giving in 24 countries and the Arab region, providing a wealth of instructive insights, observations, reflections, and quantitative information.

In addition to examining the state of philanthropy in 24 different countries, the study identifies significant knowledge and data gaps.  It is the hope that future research, repeated surveys and regularly published reports will help to fill these gaps and provide an increasingly comprehensive and valuable analysis of philanthropy as it is practiced around the world.
