The Melville Charitable Trust and the Partnership to End Long Term Homelessness

Joe's advice to those working on the nation's homeless problem was almost always the same - think bigger. While many working in the homeless "industry" adopted strategies for serving the homeless, Joe was on the front line of those advocating for an approach to ending homelessness, rather than maintaining it. “Joe’s grasp of philanthropic action—of what to do and how to do it so that the differences made lasted and opened up new possibilities and challenges—was beyond compare,” said Melville Board Chair Steven Melville.
He was an energetic supporter and guide to the national funders, Partnership to End Long Term Homelessness, and a trusted friend and advisor to the Melville Charitable Trust and hundreds, if not thousands, of other funders across the country. According to Joe, the Trust "accomplished an understanding of homelessness that was beyond anyone's efforts before, but that they also understood the foundation for real social change: 'We've learned a lot. Now build the damn units.'”
