Karoff delivers keynote at Advisors in Philanthropy Conference

Philanthropy begins as an articulation of values and passions, and for many, it is the way in which we best express our moral imagination. That is the poetry of philanthropy. The process of making grants and social investments that have impact is the practice of philanthropy. The primary test for both the poetry and the practice is integrity – was our purpose noble, were we true to it, and did we in all instances put ourselves in the ‘others’ shoes? Peter Karoff, founder of TPI, discussed these questions and more during his keynote address at the annual International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy’s Conference on Philanthropy.
The conference was scheduled for Thursday and Friday, April 28-29 at the InterContinental Chicago O’Hare. The keynote, “Reflections on Two Decades of the Poetry and Practice of Philanthropy,” brought Peter Karoff’s more than twenty years of experience to bear when looking at the role that advisors play in helping donors structure their philanthropy. As Karoff explains, “The donor advisory relationship is based on respect that turns into trust, and at its highest level, into love. That is the point of view which becomes a great gift to the client, to the advisor, and to community of interest being served.”
