The International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy
will host Peter Karoff for an online discussion of
The Moral Dimensions of Philanthropy in an Era of Scarcity

In The World We Want, Peter Karoff, the founder of The Philanthropic Initiative, raises this question: Where does the moral conscience of the community lie, if not with us?

The focus in philanthropy today is appropriately on evaluation, on capacity building, on ways to measure impact. What has been too often absent, however, from that focus is reflection on philanthropy’s moral dimensions – purpose, mission and the role and responsibility of private interventions in public space, and the ethical dimensions inherent in the process and conduct of how the work is done. There is one other aspect that is too often neglected - the nurturing of the inner journey – the connections between thinking/decisions and conscience - of those who exercise their moral imagination through philanthropy to make the world a better place.

These issues are at center of the New Normal in the practice, role and scale of philanthropy and civil society organizations. In the midst of the current economic crises we are being forced - all of us, donors, advisors to the wealthy, and nonprofit organizations - to ‘reset the way the work is done. This conversation will address how that ‘reset’ will impact your clients.
