Start Date: May 15, 2008

In family foundations, the change from parental leadership to sibling leadership brings a host of changes in board dynamics: power, structure, style, and communication, to name a few. Making this transition effectively requires attending to the importance of birth order, gender, individual interests, and general patterns of relating.  While it can be a time of great stress, it is also the time when many foundations establish a real difference between The Foundation and The Family.

Hosted by The Association of Small Foundations as a part of their Lunch & Learn Series, this discussion will focus on the major characteristics of the transition from parental to sibling control in foundations, the typical challenges faced, and some "best practice" responses.

TPI Senior Philanthropic Advisor Amy Zell Ellsworth is co-leading the discussion, along with Lisa Kirby Gibbs, CEO of the Kirby Foundation and Keith Whitaker, Director of Family Dynamics at Calibre Advisory Services.  All 3 serve on family foundation boards and have extensive experience working with and advising sibling groups in philanthropic and corporate arenas.

This event takes place on Thursday, May 15, 2008 in Westborough, MA.  Lunch will be served.
