Traditional evaluation has recently been called into question as an expensive and inefficient use of philanthropic dollars.  Those opposed to it argue that an evaluation is generally designed by a third party consultant as a linear process that fails to provide a thorough assessment of a program or organization.  The result tends to be a multi-page report that gets little consideration when first published and no attention afterwards.

On Tuesday, June 7th at 1pm EST Joanne Duhl, Vice President at TPI and Lisa Jordan, Executive Director of the Bernard Van Leer Foundation in The Hague, will look at the issues around evaluation in a webinar hosted by Philanthropic Foundations Canada (PFC).  The presentation, entitled Evaluating Impact to Support Change, will discuss a new approach to evaluation that focuses on assessing impact as opposed to individual programs.  It will offer guidance on designing evaluation processes that help funders reflect on their work and find ways to improve it.  Joanne and Lisa will discuss how to own your evaluation – from identifying the right questions to ask to ensuring that information is produced in a timely and useful way.

The webinar is open to staff and directors of all types of foundations.  More information on the presentation and how to register is available here.

PFC is a member association of Canadian grantmakers, including private and public foundations, charities and corporations.  Created in 1999, its mission is to promote the growth and development of effective and responsible foundations and organized philanthropy in Canada through provision of membership services, resources and advocacy.
