Fidelity+ Magazine provides investment insight and advice for Fidelity's Private Access clients.  "Growing a Family Philanthropy Tree" by Nancy Opiela, published in the November issue, highlights why cultivating a passion for charitable giving in the next generation can bring a family closer together and lay the groundwork for an enduring philanthropic legacy.

In the article, TPI President Ellen Remmer suggests a number of strategies for instilling children and grandchildren with philanthropic values, including dividing their allowance into "spend," "save," and "share" jars, donating books from the family's library, or hosting a holiday party in which guests donate to a local shelter.  "When your children are young," she says, "they can help pick up trash a the local beach or help builld the new school playground.  As they grow, you might reach out to the broader community, by chopping vegetables at a soup kitchen or spending weekends building a house in a low-income community."
