: About TPI : Global Philanthropy
Global Philanthropy
TPI is engaged in a research initiative exploring the growing significance of diaspora philanthropy, philanthropic giving from citizens and residents of the United States to their countries of origin. An overview study will be published in April of this year and will map and analyze the practical experience of organized diaspora philanthropy, and four case studies will explore giving from the United States to the Philippines, Vietnam, Kenya, and Colombia. The project is a joint venture of TPI and the Global Equity Initiative at Harvard University, with support from Germany’s Bertelsmann Foundation and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation.
"The Global agenda has never been so varied, so pressing, or so complex. It demands of the international community new approaches, new resources, and new commitments of political will."
Kofi Annan, United Nations Secretary General
TPI’s mission and work is not limited to the United States. Since its inception TPI has been active in working with donors around the globe, and in seeking to promote more and better giving worldwide.
TPI’s work in the realm of global philanthropy takes two forms: (1) direct consulting services to global donors, and (2) initiatives aimed at strengthening the understanding and practice of global philanthropy.
Planning and Programmatic Support
Many TPI clients have global philanthropic interests, and the number is growing. Over the years TPI has worked with numerous US individuals, family foundations, and corporations to design and implement international grantmaking strategies around issues that include health, education, human rights, environmental protection, etc. In addition, TPI has an extensive global network of colleagues available to assist with program design, grantmaking, local implementation, and evaluation. TPI also works with clients in other countries to develop grantmaking programs for their own countries or regions.
Strengthening Global Philanthropy
TPI is a recognized leader in both research and direct efforts to strengthen global social investing. Working in partnership with foundations and philanthropic organizations in most regions of the world, TPI is helping to increase both the volume and the impact of philanthropy around the globe.
